Your Musical Journey Designed for You

Sunday morning. Coffee brewing, sun coming through the kitchen window, and somewhere down the hall, the sound of scales turning into something more — a phrase landing just right, a small pause, then a smile you can hear even without seeing it. That's what regular, joyful practice sounds like in a home.

envision it...

Or maybe it's a Tuesday evening. The day is finally quiet, a glass of wine within reach, and you sit down at your own piano, not because anyone's making you, but because you want to. Show tunes drift into a Chopin Nocturne and back again. No recital, no exam. Just you, and the music, and twenty unhurried minutes that belong entirely to yourself.
This is what a well-built musical life actually sounds like~not just recitals and report cards, but music woven quietly into the rhythm of an ordinary week.

and this....

Diana W.
Vancouver , Canada

"We knew our kids loved music and were musical, but they were bored. From our first call with Anne Marie, we knew we'd found a very special teacher. Four years later, our kids are excellent sight readers, curious learners who are up for a challenge, and, most importantly, they love their lessons with Anne Marie!"

"Two years ago, I signed up for lesson with Anne Marie. I had trained classically as a child, moved on from my studies to pursue my degrees, and longed to get back to lessons. I had tried a few teachers, but none were a perfect fit. Meeting Anne Marie and beginning lessons was a revelation. She immediately disgnosed my tension issues~something I had always struggled with~ and prescribed me clear and specific strategies for decreasing tension and increasing flexibility. Two years later, and I can play more challenging music, faster tempos and my tone quality has improved immensely. I recommend Anne Marie to everyone who asks, she is kind, compassionate, and a gifted teacher who knows technique and interpretation inside out. "

"Under Anne Marie's guidance, Emma has received regional gold medals for both piano and voice from the Royal Conservatory of Music, along with recognition at the Fredericton and New Brunswick Provincial Music Festivals. But what we value most is the confidence, discipline, musicianship, and love of performing Anne Marie has helped cultivate — qualities that extend far beyond music into lifelong skills. We wholeheartedly recommend Anne Marie to anyone seeking an outstanding piano and voice teacher."

what my clients say

LOVE NOTES

Every gold medal, every personal best, every ounce of confidence you just read about — none of it started with talent alone. It started with a student who was curious, a teacher who listened, and a program built around who they actually are. That's exactly what's waiting for your family too.

It’s within your reach too

There are two ways to study with me, and the right one depends on what you're looking for.
The Signature Study Program is a full ten-month journey — individually designed around your goals, whether that's RCM examinations, festival preparation, or simply deep, joyful musical growth over a real season of study. This is where most of my students build their strongest foundations.

For those who aren't ready for a full-year commitment, I also offer Single Lessons, booked a week or two in advance. These are lovely for a student who only wants summer lessons, someone looking for the occasional lesson once a month, or a returning student who just needs a check-in — a bit of guidance, a fresh set of ears, or advice on where to go next. I genuinely enjoy these sessions too, and they're a wonderful way to keep music present in your life at whatever pace fits you right now.

Let me introduce

We close by naming what we discovered, and what to carry into the week ahead.
After every lesson, I send a detailed homework sheet with specific tips for working on everything we covered — so practice at home has real direction, not guesswork.

Closing & Review

04
STEP

The artistry: bringing the piece to life, finding your own voice inside the music. This is the moment technique stops being an exercise and becomes expression — the whole reason we do the work.

Repertoire & Expression

03
STEP

The raw skills: the technical foundation that makes everything else possible, built patiently and precisely. This is where discipline and joy meet — real mastery is what finally sets artistry free.

Technique & Musicianship

02
STEP

Every lesson begins here — settling in, connecting breath and body, arriving fully before a single note is played. A student who starts grounded plays with more ease, more presence, and far less tension in their hands and shoulders.

Whether you're preparing for an RCM voice examination, a festival, or simply want to sing with more confidence and freedom, your program is built entirely around that goal.

I've been teaching piano and voice for over 25 years, and I still love it as much as the day I started. I hold a Bachelor of Music degree from Mount Allison University and the RCM Advanced Specialist Designation in Piano. I continue my own studies at the Golandsky Institute and the Juilliard School because I believe a teacher should never stop learning alongside their students. I've performed everywhere from local stages to Carnegie Hall, and in November 2025, I received the Royal Conservatory of Music's Teacher of Distinction Award.

But credentials only tell part of the story. What I care about most is meeting each student exactly where they are and building real technical skill without ever losing sight of why they fell in love with music in the first place. My students have gone on to earn RCM Gold Medal standings, top honours at festivals nationally and internationally, and performing careers in music theatre and opera. But I'm just as proud of the quieter wins: a student who finally trusts their own sight-reading, a family who tells me their child looks forward to practice.

Every Signature Study Program is built specifically around you or your child — your goals, your pace, your voice. I'd love to meet you and talk about what that could look like.

FAQ

1. What do I need to begin piano lessons at home?

An acoustic piano or a full-size digital keyboard with 88 weighted keys. We'll discuss the specific music books you'll need at our first call. Always keep a pencil, highlighter, and eraser on or near your piano, and set up in a room with good lighting, where you feel comfortable, and that gives you the privacy you need to practice regularly.

2. What do I need to begin voice lessons?

A music stand, and a quiet room with good lighting — a space where you feel comfortable enough to actually let your voice out. We'll discuss any music books or resources you'll need at our first call. Always keep a pencil, highlighter, and eraser near our music stand.

3. What is your commitment and cancellation policy?

Signature Study Programs are a full-year commitment, running September through May. There are no refunds and no makeup lessons. This isn't a rigid rule for its own sake — it's what allows a program to actually build toward something real, rather than starting over every few weeks. If you're not ready for a full-year commitment, Single Lessons may be a better fit to start.

4. How much practice time is expected between lessons?

For beginners, 15–20 minutes, five times a week, on different days. As students progress, practice time naturally increases — 20–40 minutes for elementary-level students, and 40–60 minutes or more for intermediate and advanced students. Consistency matters more than length, especially at the start.

5. What if my child (or I) has never taken lessons before?

Every program begins with a conversation, and every level is welcome — complete beginners through advanced examination candidates. We'll design your program around exactly where you're starting from.

6. Do you offer payment plans?

Yes — one payment in full, two equal payments, or five equal payments across the year. Payment plan details and dates are available upon request.
